Install this update to resolve issues in Windows. Download Update for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2970191) from Official Microsoft Download Center. To use legacy (Windows XP-7) FireWire drivers on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, you have to install KB2907191 and manually select to use these drivers for your product. This driver is installed in c: program files (x86) 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy).
I just upgraded to Windows 7 and my firewire camcorder is not detected anymore by Windows. It does detect the 1394 card but it just doesn't see the camera regardless of having the camera turned on and playing a tape. I've seen a several posts indicating people solving the issue by reverting to the legacy 1394 driver so I decided to give it a try. However, every time I try to change the driver I get an error message. This is what I do: Right click on Computer and click Properties, then Device Manager Double click IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers Right click on the device listed under this heading, click Update Driver Click 'Browse my computer for driver software' Click 'Let me pick from a list' Select '1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)' Up to this point everything is fine.
Then when it is actually trying to install the driver the 'Installing driver software.' Window just keeps going on and on.After about 4-5 minutes then it returns an error message indicating the process timed out.
Thanks a lot in advance. Thank you very much for replying to this message. My camera is JVC and I don't remember the exact model at this moment (I can follow up on this one at a later time).however, the only driver that came with it was a USB driver to access still pictures stored in an SD card. No IEEE 1394 driver was ever supplied with it. The first time I hooked it to the firewire port under XP it was detected automatically by the OS.
I understand the legacy driver comes bundled in Windows 7. Any idea why the installation of this driver times out? I'll try what you recommend about uninstalling the driver and restarting the computer. Thanks, Carlos.
I'm running Windows 8 RTM Enterprise x64. I use an RME Fireface 400 audio interface (soundcard) and it does not function correctly unless I boot without driver signing so that I can use the legacy firewire driver I copied out of a Windows 7 x64 PC as it is not included in Win8 anymore. I spent quite a bit of money on importing a SIIG FireWire 2-Port PCIe (NN-E20012-S2) firewire controller, it has a Texas Instruments chip but even with this, I still have to use the legacy driver. Please consider adding the legacy driver back into Windows 8. It is a well documented fact that many audio engineers used this driver to get their audio interfaces working 100% in Windows 7. I also met someone who uses a scanner and he also could only get it to function correctly using the legacy driver stripped out of a Win7 install.
